Computer-Desk The field of management information systems encompasses the analysis, design, implementation, and management of information systems. Information systems help to control operations through transaction processing, and also support planning and decision making activities in all functional areas of an organization. Successful information system professionals need excellent communication skills (verbal and written), technical expertise in computer hardware and software systems, knowledge of the application domain, and the ability to work well with people.

MBA MIS Concentration Prerequisites

CS 152L (Computer Programming Fundamentals for Computer Science Majors), MGMT 329 (Database Management Systems), and MGMT 459 (Systems Analysis & Design) are prerequisites for all concentration students. Students lacking prerquisites or waivers must complete undergraduate prerequisite courses prior to enrolling in any 600-level MIS courses. Students may petition the concentration advisor for prerequisite waivers based on equivalent coursework, professional training, or professional experience.

NEW! MBA Information Assurance Concentration
Students can pursue a MIS concentration and combine it with a concentration in Information Assurance (IA). Because of overlapping course requirements, students pursuing an Accounting or MIS concentration can typically complete a second concentration in IA with two or three additional courses. Students intending to pursue a dual concentration need to plan their studies in advance and coordinate the plan with both concentration advisors.

Visit the Information Assurance web site for more information about the concentration.

Notes/Recommendations

1. MGMT 522 is a prerequisite for all graduate marketing courses.
2. Both MGMT 580 and 581 should be taken before or concurrent to MGMT 489, 523, 584, 586, 587 and 588.
3. You are your own best advisor. You should know the requirements for graduation and how you are going to fulfill them. The Marketing Faculty and ASM MBA Advisor are available to assist you in planning your curriculum. You should seek advice prior to making important decisions.
